Classye James, Founder & CEO

Growing up in the heart of Silicon Valley provided me a unique lens into the technology and entrepreneurial industries at a very young age. While I always fostered a love for technology (nerd life for life) and pictured myself as a future BOSS, the majority of my life was primarily focused on sports.

I played basketball competitively for 17 years and continued to the Division I collegiate level with the ultimate dream of becoming a professional basketball player. After a career-ending injury, I was forced to retire at the age of 22, ending a major chapter in my life.I was suddenly thrust out of a world I had always belonged to and knew so well.

I found myself at a crossroads. Equipped with a degree in Business Finance from San Jose State University, I leveraged my network (thanks mom!) and got a job at one of the biggest tech companies in the world, Cisco Systems. Shortly thereafter, I received my real estate license #alwaysgrindin. I am currently enrolled at Santa Clara University where I am working towards my MBA, and most importantly I am BEYOND excited for this new journey as the founder and CEO of my very own company, Shakeout, LLC.

A career-ending injury crushed my dream of becoming a professional basketball player, closed a major chapter of my life and thrust me out of a world I knew so well.

Nick Grieves, COO

My name is Nick Grieves, former colligate and professional basketball player, who has a passion for coaching and helping athletes. I graduated from California State University, East Bay with a degree in Kinesiology. After graduating, I played 1 year professionally in Spain. Once I knew my playing career was over, I had no idea what my next move was.

Transitioning into the real world after my playing career ended was a struggle. I did not prepare for life after sports as well as I could have and, like most athletes when their career ends, I had a massive identity crisis. I needed a new passion.

Growing up I played every sport imaginable, so I knew I wanted to work in sports and with athletes. Through work experience and discovering a love for coaching, consulting, and mentoring athletes, I knew Shakeout would be a perfect fit for me.

With Classye and Shakeout, we are able to be the voice for athletes and help them transition into the real world, because you are more than your sport.

Dominique Hamilton, VP of Events & Operations

I was born and Raised in the Bay Area, Berkeley to be exact. I was a late bloomer when it came to athletics, I found my love for the game of basketball my sophomore year in high school, and I fell in love with the sport. I was fortunate to earn an athletic scholarship to San Jose State University.

My vision for my future was to graduate from college and have an opportunity to play professional basketball overseas. My mind was telling me one thing, but by the time my Junior year came around my body had other plans in mind. I wasn’t able to compete my senior season, but was fortunate to graduate SJSU with a degree in sociology however, I had no idea what to do with that degree. Even worse, I had no idea what to do with myself which lead me to a state of depression. I thought I was the only person experiencing this state of confusion and sadness, but once I began talking to other athletes I realized we were all experiencing similar struggles. This is exactly why I love working for a company like Shakeout!

Shakeout has identified a crisis that majority of us athletes all face at one point, which is transitioning into life after sports. Not only has Shakeout identified a problem but we offer tangible solutions. We provide step by step processes and give athletes the tools needed to succeed even after the game.
